Arts & Theatre Itinerary

Discover an extraordinary cultural arts scene in Montgomery! Enjoy world-class theatre performances, tour nationally acclaimed collections of fine art, listen to a wonderful selection of live music, or stroll the city’s many art galleries. From Hank Williams to William Shakespeare, you’ll find it all in Montgomery!

Day One

9:00 Montgomery Area Visitor Center, Union Station

Every visit to Montgomery starts at this splendidly preserved train station, where tourists can enjoy a quick video highlighting things to see and do in Montgomery, and pick up brochures and other information. Visitors should stop at Montgomery’s official unique Gift Shop for memorable souvenirs!

10:00 SAC's Gallery

Visit this unique art gallery founded in 1979 by members of the Society of Arts and Crafts. It provides an excellent opportunity for local artists to display and sell their original work. Located in the heart of the Mulberry Shopping District.

11:00 Shopping in the Mulberry Shopping District

Park your car and shop on Mulberry Street. With many boutiques and antique shops lining the streets and adjacent avenues, the Mulberry Shopping District is the place to find unique clothing, gifts, home décor and much more!

12:30 Lunch

Enjoy creative casual dining at Shashy’s Fine Foods or head out east to Café M at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.

2:00 Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts

Every visitor to Montgomery must take time to see this permanent collection of artwork, which includes examples of 19th and 20th century American paintings and sculptures, plus a host of Southern regional art that defines the Southern culture.
Free admission. Donations welcome.

3:30 Blount Cultural Park & Shakespeare Gardens

While in the park, take a break and stroll through the Shakespeare Garden or walk around this beautiful park and enjoy what nature has to offer.

5:00 Dinner

Select from fine dining choices like The Vintage Year, Bonefish Grill or Garrett’s Restaurant.

6:30 Alabama Shakespeare Festival

This internationally acclaimed theatre will be sure to wow you! It is one of the ten largest Shakespeare Theatres in the world and presents world-class contemporary and classic productions and educational programs throughout the year.

Faulkner Dinner Theatre

This dinner theatre provides a Christian based, fun family atmosphere. Includes a nice dinner with dessert.

Day Two

10:00 Hank Williams Museum and Memorial

This popular attraction pays tribute to one of the most revered and loved country music writers and performers. Many of Williams’ personal belongings are on display, including the baby blue 1952 Cadillac in which Hank took his last ride.
Admission charge.

Legendary country music singer Hank Williams’ final resting place is located in Oakwood Cemetery Annex.

12:00 Lunch

Enjoy lunch at Nancy Paterson’s Bistro or experience true southern cuisine at Martin’s Restaurant.

1:30 F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum

The F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to the life and works of the Fitzgeralds. It houses an extensive collection of photographs, original correspondence between Zelda and Scott, prints of Zelda’s paintings, copies of Scott’s novels, furniture from Zelda’s childhood home and other memorabilia and artifacts. Visitors to the museum may also watch a video detailing the life and works of the Fitzgeralds.

3:00 Shopping in Old Cloverdale

Start with Stonehenge on Cloverdale Road, shop your way back to Old Cloverdale on Fairview Avenue and end your day in the Mulberry Street shopping district. An array of unique shops all within a few blocks of one another!

5:00 Dinner

Enjoy a wonderful dinner at The House or The Exchange in the new Renaissance Montgomery Hotel, Nobles Lounge or The Olive Room.

7:00 Local Theatre

Montgomery is host to its own Symphony Orchestra, ballet performances at the Davis Theatre and independent film presentations at the Capri Theatre or take in a live concert or traveling Broadway show at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre.
