PRESS RELEASE

OLD ALABAMA TOWN CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY OF BEIJING OLYMPICS

August 04, 2009

MONTGOMERY, Ala.--A year ago this month, the world gathered in China in the spirit of friendship, solidarity, peace and progress for the 29th Olympic Games held in Beijing for 16 days. Just in time for the anniversary of this event, Old Alabama Town presents "Sharing Dreams and Glory: Photographs of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games." The free exhibit will be on display in the Old Alabama Town reception center August 5-September 25 and can be viewed Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 11,028 athletes competing in the 2008 summer games set 38 world records and 85 Olympic records. From America's Michael Phelps to Jamaica's Usain Bolt, the Olympiads pushed themselves to their limits and overcame many obstacles in their quest for the gold. This photography exhibit captures the passion and triumphs of the historic event.

"As a living history museum, Old Alabama Town is interested in showcasing the recent past and other cultures, in addition to our mission of interpreting 19th century Alabama," said Carole King, curator of Old Alabama Town. "This exquisite collection of photographs from the Beijing games highlights the very best of the human spirit and we are delighted to present it to the local community."

The exhibit is on loan from the Johnson Center for the Arts and is sponsored by Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, Troy University College of Communications and Fine Arts, Confucius Institute at Troy, and Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).
