PRESS RELEASE

Alabama Dance Theatre Presents “The Little Mermaid and More…”

February 24, 2011

Montgomery, AL…The Alabama Dance Theatre is proud to present its 24th annual Spring Concert March 4th through March 6th at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre located at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Montgomery. The performance will feature a world premiere of “The Little Mermaid” choreographed by ADT’s Resident Choreographer, Sara Sanford.

“The Little Mermaid” is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s mythical fairytale. This classic will take you to new depths as it explores the heart of a little mermaid who longs to walk on land and experience true love and the wonders of a human soul. The ballet takes you “under the sea” to the Sea King’s castle and the Sea Witch’s lair and on land to the Prince’s seaside palace. Sea creatures abound in this beautiful and magical telling of the story through dance.

The performance will also include short works; a gospel piece with a live choir choreographed by Foye DuBose, a comedic ballet, and a new abstract piece by Sara Sanford.

ADT’s spring concert is sponsored by Loree & Owen Aronov, Regions Bank, Cumulus Broadcasting, Chick-fil-A Midtown, Montgomery Advertiser, Fairfield Inn and Suites East Chase Parkway, the City of Montgomery, the Montgomery County Commission, and is funded in part by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Performances are Friday, March 4th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 5th at 3:00 p.m (“The Little Mermaid” only), and Sunday, March 6th at 3:00 p.m. at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.comor at the MPAC box office (334-481-5100). Performance tickets are $12 - $25 and go on sale February 14.
